I have spent the entire day surfing the Net for these articles and photos. I will be called sexist on this one, but I am pretty fairly convinced that the new generation of geeky girls looks better than the previous incarnation.
Is it because they are younger? I don't think so, but an accusation of agism is possible. My hypothesis is that the younger generation eats a 21st Century diet and not the traditional Fast Food Diet. Since electronic gaming is more mainstream than fantasy role playing, these girls may get out more and thus have to be presentable.
